FAQ’s

Q: What Programs do you offer?

A: We offer programs for students of all ages (pre-k through college). We provide tutoring in all major subjects, including math, science, reading, writing, and foreign language. We also offer Test-Prep Programs for the ACT, SAT, HSPT, and GED.

Q: Can you explain your programs a little more?

A:  Sure. Here is an overview:

  • Tutoring with our Curriculum (also called Standard Program): Students of all ability levels can benefit from our Standard Program. This program is completely customized to the needs of the student.  Many students struggle because they are missing foundational skills. Other students struggle because the material is too easy and they need a challenge. If you want to fill in the knowledge gaps or accelerate beyond grade level, this program can help!  Many of our programs are aligned with common core standards. We also have research-based curriculum proven to help students improve.

  • School Help (also called School Support Program): You tell us which subject(s) your child is struggling with and we match him/her with a qualified tutor. The tutor and your child will work on school-related work with an emphasis on understanding the material more thoroughly. This program includes support with homework and preparation for tests and quizzes. Your child is responsible for bringing in all relevant material. We have qualified tutors in most major subjects, for all levels.

  • Test-Prep (SAT/ACT/HSPT/GED): Our customized test-prep programs help students reach their score goals. Students take an initial assessment to help us pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses. Qualified tutors help students gain the content knowledge and test-taking skills needed for success. Practice tests and consistent progress monitoring help ensure that your child is getting results!

  • Summer Programs (Reading, Math, Science, Study Skills, and more!): Learning during summer break can actually be fun! We offer hands-on, interactive programs for all ages. Our summer programs provide the perfect bridge from one school year to the next to help students build a solid foundation or get ahead.

Q: What services do you offer?
A:
Assessment Tests: Nationally-recognized evaluations to pinpoint your child’s academic strengths and weaknesses
Academic Coaching: Support that goes beyond tutoring to help students overcome learning barriers and reach their true potential
College Application Assistance: Expert assistance with the college application process including essays, financial aid, and scholarships

Q: Who are your tutors?
A: Most of our tutors hold teaching certificates and work within the local school systems. All of our tutors are college graduates and many have Master’s Degrees. Many of our tutors have endorsements in special education and have experience working with students with ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and specific math or reading disabilities. We work hard to ensure each student is placed with a teacher that best meets his or her specific needs. Parents are always welcome to meet their child’s tutors and find out more about their specific qualifications. If a parent requests that only a certified teacher works with his or her child, we can guarantee that.

Q: How often will my child attend ILC?
A:
Some of our students attend only one day per week and others attend almost every day.  We recommend students maintain consistent schedules for optimal results, but schedules are made on an individual basis.

Q: Do you meet with teachers in my child’s school?
A:
Yes- this is an optional component of our program and requires written permission.  We value teacher feedback and work hard to ensure that students are connecting what they learn at ILC to the classroom. We meet with teachers at the child’s school or set up phone meetings if they are unable to meet in person. We do not, however, observe your child in the classroom.

Q: How does your ACT Exam Prep Program help students reach their score goals?
A:
We focus on content and strategies specific to your child’s needs- we build on your child’s strengths while focusing on the areas that need improvement. Students take REAL ACT Exams to gain practice and monitor progress.  Many courses available offer just generalized strategies; at ILC, a student works at his or her own pace in a one-to-one or small group setting. Students are provided with a book and customized packets to study with at home. Students work with specialists for each subject area: English, Math, Reading, Science and Writing.
